The Gipsy Kings emerged out of the South of France in the early 80s when the Reyes and Baliardos families set the world on fire with their infectious and sensual rhythms – sounds that where original and breathtaking. We have been dancing to their Gypsy beats ever since. Songs like Djobi Djoba and Bamboleo are forever etched on our minds as quintessential feel good music. And we have all enjoyed a Bamboleo Moment!

A recent all star collaboration in the India sub-continent featuring Gipsy Kings’ family, Mario Reyes and Georges Reyes, has spawned a new project called the Gypsy Allstars which will explore the origins of gypsy music and culture in Rajasthan, India and see the gypsies return to their ancestral home for a Discovery Channel special which traces this merging of Indian and Gypsy rhythms. A portion of the monies raised from the project will be used to support JVF – A Rajasthani Foundation working to preserve gypsy music.

The Gypsy Allstars, have been hand picked by Cedric Leonardi , who grew up with the Gipsy Kings and their families in Montpellier’s ‘la cite gely’ an and most recently performed as their drummer. The Gypsy AllStars lineup sees the gypsies joining forces with Indian musicians to add an exciting fusion sound of Gipsy King’s favorites and original music.

Included in the Gypsy Allstars project are Cuban virtuoso bassist Carlitos de Puerto, the extraordinary Satnam Singh Ramgotra on tabla; Indian songbird Mala Ganguly joins the Gipsy King family’s Mario Reyes and George Reyes on vocals, while Sitar maestro Aloke DasGupta, adds beauty and depth to the gypsy rumbas.

Two of the world’s great modern flamenco performers Manuel Gutierrez and Arleen Hurtado add passion to the evening. Guatemala’s guitar virtuoso Alfredo Caceres is the project’s musical director.
