2013 ANNUAL SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL CALENDAR OF FESTIVALS

HALF MOON BAY, CALIFORNIA –– With the San Francisco Bay Area’s popular summer festival season upon us, it’s time to start putting together your can’t-miss list. Miramar Events, producer of several popular festivals in the San Francisco Bay Area, announced its 2013 summer calendar.   

Connoisseurs’ Marketplace (27th annual), Menlo Park, California

When:           July 20-21, 2013; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

What:           Menlo Park’s venerable festival of the arts marks its 27th year saluting the best of summer in supreme style … with live jazz, rhythm and blues, rock ‘n roll, dance and party music on stage and street throughout downtown, a juried show with contemporary fine art and one-of-a-kind crafts by 250 of America’s best artists, chefs’ demos under a giant tent, artisan specialty food, health and wellness displays, a green products showcase, home and garden exhibits, festive food and drink with premium wine, microbrews, margaritas and mojitos, the AutoVino collector car showcase, and captivating amusements, fun and games in the action-packed kids’ fun zone. Admission is free.

Millbrae Art & Wine Festival (43rd annual), Millbrae, California

When:          Aug. 31-Sept. 1, 2013; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

What:           The Bay Area’s biggest Labor Day weekend event, huge crowds transform downtown Millbrae into the “Big Easy” with a Mardi Gras-style celebration featuring two sun-splashed days of live music throughout downtown, a juried show with 250 professional artists and craftmakers showing their latest handcrafted wares, festive food and drink, premium wines, microbrews, margaritas and mojitos, artisan specialty food, a microbrew tasting tent, an organic and green product showcase, home and garden exhibits, health and wellness displays, the “Classically Cool Car Show” and tons of fun for kids with the Streets Filled With Talent Music & Dance Showcase and an abundance of amazing amusements in Playland. Mountain View Art & Wine Festival (42nd annual), Mountain View, California

When:           Sept. 7-8, 2013; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

What:          Silicon Valley’s World-Class Art & Music Festival is a vibrant multicultural celebration featuring 600 professional artists and craftmakers showing exceptional handcrafted wares, stellar live music on stage and street throughout downtown with headliners The Groove Kings, Ruckatan, The Rhythm Vandals, The Boys of Summer, the Comcast Pigskin Party Lounge with giant screen TV, festive food and drink with premium wines, microbrews, sangria, mimosas, mojitos and margaritas, artisan specialty food purveyors, an organic and green products showcase, health and wellness displays, home and garden exhibits, sensational young performers strut their showstopping stuff on the Community Stage in this “Mountain View’s Got Talent” style showcase, and action-packed Kids’ Park with a special NASA Mars Rover Curiosity exhibit, Mobile Rock’s 24’ climbing wall, ultra thrilling bungee jumping, hula hooping, spine-tingling carnival rides and super cool body art. Admission is free.

Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off (40th annual), Half Moon Bay, California

When:           Oct. 14, 2013; 7 a.m. – 11 a.m.

What:           Superstar Gourd Growing Greats and their hard-to-believe, titanic orange orbs gather for the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in the World Pumpkin Capital of Half Moon Bay, California. A special $25,000 bonus mega-prize will be awarded to any grower that breaks the world record at Half Moon Bay –– considered the “Super Bowl of Weigh-Offs”. A host of accomplished, grizzled veteran growers contend for the coveted title, the $25,000 world record prize and thousands in additional prize money. In a pay-by-the-pound system, the winner will take home a hefty $6 per pound for the champion mega-pumpkin. Superstar grower Thad Starr’s humongous, mind-blowing 1,775-pound weigh-off champion mega-gourd set a new California State Record and obliterated a formidable field of heavyweight contenders in winning the 2012 Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off. The grand champion gourd (along with the top five overall) will be on display at the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, October 19-20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main Street.

Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival (43rd annual), Half Moon Bay, California

When:           Oct. 19-20, 2013; 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

What:           The World Pumpkin Capital of Half Moon Bay celebrates its bountiful fall harvest and autumn splendor with a special display of gigantically ginormous, heavyweight champion pumpkins, three stages of smashing entertainment, non-stop live music, the Great Pumpkin Parade, a bone-chilling Haunted House, harvest-inspired crafts, homestyle foods, expert pumpkin carver Farmer Mike sculpting a monster 1,200+ pound pumpkin into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, photos with the grand champion mega-gourd, pie-eating and costume contests, pumpkin carving for fun (not a contest), “Smashing Pumpkins: Battle of the Bands”, the Take 5 Lounge with giant screen TV, luscious varietals from Half Moon Bay Winery’s including their festival-label Red Table Wine, Mavericks Pumpkin Harvest Ale, and Pumpkin-ritas (margarita with a splash of pumpkin spice syrup).
